Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy defensive lineman Sam Greene received an offer from USC three weeks ago. He announced his commitment to USC Thursday night at halftime of St. Frances Academy’s game versus Venice in Florida.

It was a quick announcement for Greene, who said he’s taking his talents to Cali and caught a USC hat thrown to him from off camera.

“Coach [Shaun] Nua, the players, they just feel like home,” Greene said. “I love being around a family-oriented coaching staff and that’s what they are.”

Greene had a solid first half before his announcement. He showed his athleticism just before halftime when he caught a pass on a fake punt and rumbled for a big gain.

Greene is commitment No. 17 in the Trojans’ 2023 recruiting class.

“Riley, I’m coming baby,” Greene said as a sign off after his commitment, directed at USC head coach Lincoln Riley.

After recording four sacks and three tackles for loss in just 12 plays in St. Frances’ 2022 preseason scrimmage, Boston College, Penn St., USC and Texas A&M offered the senior. Despite perhaps being a bit undersized at 6-foot-2, 260 pounds, we’re hearing the Trojans really like him. Greene is explosive, extremely disruptive and plays really hard.

Schools like Miami, Oklahoma and Ohio State were still evaluating Greene, who currently isn’t ranked in the On3 Consensus. He’s experiencing a bit of a resurgence in his recruitment and approaching this next phase with patience.

“Just taking it in,” he told Tim Verghese of Aggie Scoop. “One step at a time, one step at a time. Just getting used to it. Happy to see my hard work finally paying off at my new school….I’m loving it.”

Greene is not ranked in the 2023 On3 Consensus or the 2023 On300, but he has a 3-Star ranking from On3 and ESPN.

A day ago Greene announced his plans to commit on Thursday(9/15) on ESPN during his game vs Venice.

What Greene was Looking for in a School & Football Program

Greene chose USC over Penn St., Boston College and Texas A&M. A few days ago he posted on Twitter that the Trojans were looking good and spoke to On3 National Analyst Chad Simmons on Wednesday. WeAreSC submitted a USC prediction Wednesday morning.

Although he hasn’t visited USC, Greene talked about what he’s looking for in a school and football program.

“Just to feel like I’m at home,” he said. “I’m treated as one of the guys, not no favoritism, but just one of the guys and the environment has to be for me. The people, from the head coach to the kickers to the trainers, everybody has to be one big family. That’s what I love. I love playing for a family-oriented coaching staff, because I know that they’ll treat me like family.”
