BREAKING: QB Jayden Maiava Commits to USC
UNLV quarterback Jayden Maiava has announced his commitment to USC. Maiava announced on New Years Day his plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. While word on his status had been relatively quiet in the days after the announcement, USC and Georgia were among the first schools to offer last week.
Maiava took his first official visit to Georgia late last week, then took his USC official visit this past weekend. We were told on Sunday that Maiava would gather with family and make a “very big decision and announce on Monday.
Adding a couple quarterbacks this offseason was a huge priority for USC head coach Lincoln Riley and this is an extremely significant addition to his QB room.
USC has lost two QBs this offseason in Caleb Wiliams and Malachi Nelson, so the Trojans needed a couple of quarterbacks. Someone like Maiava will come in and compete with Miller Moss, who lit up the 2023 Holiday Bowl vs Louisville on Dec. 27.
UCLA CB commit John Humphrey, NDSU DL Javier Derritt, DL Sione Lolohea and Texas A&M DL Isaiah Raikes are also scheduled to officially visit this weekend. Humphrey told WeAreSC he arrives at USC on Saturday.
Maiava’s Freshman Season
The talented QB has been with the Rebels for two seasons. He took a redshirt in 2022 and was the Mountain West Freshman of the Year. He led UNLV to the conference championship game and completed 62.9 percent of passes for 3,085 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also ran for 277 yards and three scores.
Jayden Maiava played high school football at Liberty HS in Las Vegas, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 986 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
