Kohen Brown

Three-star Waxahachie (TX) wide receiver Kohen Brown flew into Los Angeles last week for a Tuesday and Wednesday visit to USC. It may have been his first visit, but it was an extremely impactful visit and led to his verbal commitment to the Trojans on Wednesday.

“California is beautiful, I did not think I was gonna love it this much,” Brown told WeAreSC. “People told me I was going to like it a lot, but then I got there and they showed me a lot of love. I love the city out there, I love the campus and I love how the players interact. I love the culture and I just started falling in love with all of it.”

As a junior, Brown finished his season with 54 receptions for 1,084 yards, averaging 20.1 yards per catch, and scored 11 touchdowns. According to the On3 Industry Ranking, he’s the No. 66 overall wide receiver prospect in the country and No. 57 prospect in Texas. Those rankings are a bit off based off our evaluation of Brown, but that’s a topic for another day.

When USC became a strong option

Tight ends and inside receivers coach Chad Savage was hired in early January and hit the road recruiting shortly after that. One of thew schools he visited was Waxahachie High, which is about 30 minutes south of Dallas. That was the beginning of USC’s recruitment of Brown. The Trojans followed up that visit with a scholarship offer about two weeks later.

“I think growing up, I think a lot of them have USC as a school we’re interested in,” Brown told WeAreSC. “I mean, they’ve had great coaches and great players. And then Lincoln Riley, who doesn’t want to play for Lincoln Riley? He pulls your attention.

“Coach Savage came in when he first got the job and he offered me a couple weeks later. After that I found out I was a top priority for him. Some teams offer and that’s it, but USC kept in close contact. Shout out to Max (Stienecker), he stays in my phone and let me know I’m priority early.”

“He’s a good person and a great offensive coach,” said Brown. “But behind all the football stuff, just getting to know him…he’s a great person. Like a great human being, a great guy. My parents loved them. My mom loved him and she pretty hard to win over. I talk him on a regular basis.”

Chad Bowden

There hasn’t been a USC recruit I’ve talked in the past month or so who hasn’t spent time on the phone with general manager Chad Bowden, including Brown.

“I love Chad, he’s an upfront dude and I like that about him,” Brown said. “A lot of schools, they’ll tell you what you want to hear. He’s telling you honest truth and he definitely wants me to enroll. I don’t know how to explain it, but if you’re getting recruited, he gonna let you know the truth.”

Who Brown’s talking to

WeAreSC asked Brown if he’s had a chance to talk to any players or USC commits.

“I talk to Riley Wormley, the running back,” said Brown. “I played seven on seven last year with him, so we have a pretty good connection. Been chatting up with him. And then Jonas Williams, the quarterback that just committed. He flipped from Oregon. I’ve been talking to him a little bit, too.

“Riley loves it at USC and I’ve asked him all types of questions. I asked if he miss home? He said, of course I miss home, but that’s any college, you’re gonna be busy. You ain’t about to go home. So he made a good point there.”

USC’s No. 1 ranked 2026 recruiting class

As of April 2, USC owns the No. 1 2026 recruiting class ranking. That class ranking was bolstered a bit on Tuesday with the commitment of TomTom Topui.
