Caleb Williams is the Walter Camp Player of the Year
Another major honor rolled in for USC quarterback Caleb Williams on Thursday evening. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound signal-caller was selected as the Walter Camp Player of the Year for his performance during the 2022 season.
The Walter Camp Player of Year is voted on by the nation’s 131 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors and has been awarded since 1967.
Williams was outstanding during his true sophomore season. He threw for 4,075 yards on 296-of-448 passing (66.1%). He posted a phenomenal touchdown-to-interception ratio of 37-to-4 and he ranks third nationally in total offense with 4,447 yards total yards.
Williams was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the year. He also became just the second Pac-12 player to throw for 30 touchdowns and run for 10 more.

Williams is the quarterback of the Walter Camp All-America Team. He’s joined on that squad by USC teammate and defensive end Tuli Tuipulotu.
His 47 total touchdowns this season are the most in the country and his 282 total points rank No. 1 nationally as well. He set USC single-season records for total yards and total touchdowns this season. And seven times this season he threw for more than 340 yards. He set a career-high in passing yards with 411 against Arizona on Oct. 29. He then bested that by a wide margin with 470 passing yards in a thrilling win against UCLA in mid-November.
Williams Joins Long History of USC Winners
Williams is the sixth USC Trojan to earn Walter Camp Player of the Year honors. Running back O.J. Simpson won it the first two years it was awarded, in 1967 and 1968. Charles White won in 1979. Marcus Allen won in 1981. Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush won it back-to-back in 2004 and 2005.
