USC defensive lineman Colin Mobley has withdrawn his name from the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz.

The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive lineman entered the portal on Dec. 20. He became the eighth Trojan to do so this offseason.

This move likely locks Mobley onto the USC roster for at least spring ball. The transfer portal window is now closed and the next one won’t open until May 1.

Mobley was a three-star addition to USC’s 2021 recruiting class out of Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman was one of the first targets offered by then-defensive line coach Vic So’oto when he came to USC from Virginia.

Mobley wasn’t viewed as an instant contributor when he arrived at USC. But he brought an intriguing frame as a developmental prospect. He saw brief action in two games as a true freshman in 2021. Mobley did not get on the field this fall under the new USC coaching staff.

The defensive line is a spot where USC could use all the bodies it can get in 2023. And Mobley should have an opportunity to grow into a solid presence in his third year. The Trojans signed three high school linemen in the 2023 class and landed three potential impact additions via the transfer portal.

Defensive tackle Kyon Barrs comes to USC from Arizona. Defensive end Jack Sullivan came over from Purdue. And USC’s top transfer portal addition so far is former Texas A&M defensive end Anthony Lucas.

There have now been a couple of interesting moves early this week as far as the Trojans preparing for spring ball. The last day for USC students to register for classes for the spring semester was this past Friday. On Monday, USC officially announced the addition of Florida transfer Ethan White. That came right on the heels of former linebacker Tuasivi Nomura landing at Fresno State late last week.

Head coach Lincoln Riley said previously this offseason that the Trojans are right up against the scholarship limit and the way spring transfers work is that a spot doesn’t open up unless the player leaving enrolls at another university this spring or graduates.

Fellow defensive lineman Kobe Pepe remains in the transfer portal. But both he and Mobley were spotted in photos participating in winter workouts with the Trojans while in the portal.
