The USC Trojans will take the field for the first practice of the Lincoln Riley era on Tuesday afternoon. The offense is likely to get a majority of the attention considering that's Riley's specialty and the Trojans landed the nation's offseason transfer prize in quarterback Caleb Williams. But it's the defensive side of the ball that needs to provide the quickest results if the Trojans are going to make massive improvements from a 4-8 season in 2021. The USC defense ranked near the bottom of the Pac-12 in virtually every major statistic, including No. 11 in points per game allowed.
