USC hosted five-star defensive lineman Eddrick Houston for an official visit two weeks ago and it’s clear the Trojans made a big impression. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound lineman raved about his visit when he spoke with On3’s Chad Simmons shortly after it ended. And the nation’s No. 15 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings is still speaking highly of the trip and the Trojans weeks later.

Houston was one of 30 of the nation’s top prospects to attend the inaugural On3 NIL Elite Series in Nashville this week. The event is to provide a platform for those prospects to learn about name, image and likeness. Presented by Mizuno, it marks the first event put on by On3’s OS Division.

But Houston took some time to speak with On3’s Josh Newberg and J.D. PicKell during the event. They asked him about his visit to USC.

“It was great just to be able to go to LA and just see what they have to offer,” Houston said. “It was my first time been up there and just amazing to see everything they have there. The amount of people you can meet, the amount of connections.”

The Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Denver Nuggets in a Western Conference Finals game at Crypto.com Arena the Saturday night of Houston’s visit. He said one of the things that stood out about the visit was getting to see some of the players walk into the arena.

“It was just amazing,” Houston said. “The school was great. Met a lot of people, a lot of coaches that I just talked to over the phone. It was great just to see them in person, spend time with them the whole weekend, and just get to know them.”

USC is going to have to go toe-to-toe with some elite recruiting programs in order to win out for Houston. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and Ohio State are all involved. The hometown Bulldogs would seemingly be the favorite when it comes to location, but Houston said he doesn’t mind traveling.

USC Turning up the Heat

Houston said Clemson initially was the school contacting him the most. But since the visit, USC has been the school in contact with him the most.

Houston will announce his commitment on his 18th birthday, August 22. He has official visits still to take and there’s plenty of time for changes to occur in his recruitment. But the standout defensive lineman said he does have a leader at this point. Though, he declined to name which school that is.

The Trojans will need to hang in there after getting the early official visit. Lincoln Riley, Shaun Nua and company have to hope they did enough on Houston’s first and possibly only visit to the campus.
