Former USC Reciever Gary Bryant Announces Transfer to Oregon
Another former Trojans is scheduled to line up against USC this fall as former wide receiver Gary Bryant announced Saturday night that he’ll suit up for the Oregon Ducks this fall.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Bryant was the top-ranked prospect in the Trojans’ 2020 recruiting class. He came to USC as the No. 50 overall prospect and nation’s No. 1 athlete in the On3 Industry Rankings.
Bryant announced his entry into the transfer portal on Jan. 9 and took several official visits, including Arizona, Miami, Oregon and Texas A&M. The Ducks are adding a very talented receiver. It’s the third such addition for Oregon this offseason. Oregon previously grabbed transfer portal commitments from Troy receiver Tez Johnson and Alabama receiver Traeshon Holden.
He was the No. 62 wide receiver in the transfer portal this offseason.
Bryant at USC
Bryant played as a true freshman in 2020 for the Trojans. He saw action in five games and recorded seven receptions for 51 yards. But his biggest impact came on special teams, where he settled in as the primary kickoff returner. His most notable play that season came against UCLA, when he returned a kickoff 56 yards in the final minute to set USC up for the game-winning score.
As a sophomore in 2021, Bryant finished third on the Trojans with 44 receptions. He totaled 579 receiving yards and seven touchdowns through the air, plus another on the ground. He led the team with 11 punt returns for 50 yards and 16 kickoff returns for 413 yards.

It figured Bryant would be a big part of the offense in 2022. But he caught just one pass against Rice and one pass against Stanford. After returning two kickoffs against Fresno State, head coach Lincoln Riley announced the following week that Bryant would use his redshirt and sit out the remainder of the season.
USC’s Wide Receiver Position
Bryant is the fourth wide receiver to enter the transfer portal off of USC’s 2022 roster. And the Trojans will now face three of them in 2023. Kyle Ford went across town to UCLA. John Jackson III is now at Nevada, which visits USC for the second game of the season. And C.J. Williams is at Wisconsin, which could become a Big Ten Conference opponent starting in 2024.
USC rebounded by landing the No. 4 transfer portal wide receiver in former Arizona standout Dorian Singer. The Trojans also signed the nation’s No. 1 high school wide receiver in Zachariah Branch and the No. 6 receiver in Makai Lemon. USC also landed the nation’s No. 1 tight end in Duce Robinson.
The Trojans also return standouts in Mario Williams, Brenden Rice, Tahj Washington and others.
