Former USC safety Briton Allen announced his commitment to Utah on Friday afternoon, finishing off his trip through the transfer portal.

The 6-foot, 190-pound safety arrived at USC as a three-star prospect in the 2019 class out of IMG Academy. He enrolled early and saw extensive time at cornerback during his first spring ball. But injuries eventually derailed his career with the Trojans.

Allen played in 11 games as a true freshman, finishing with five tackles. He played in four games in 2020 and did not see the field in either 2021 or 2022. Allen suffered a neck sprain during the 2019 season then underwent surgery on his wrist following the season. He underwent surgery again after tearing ligaments in his knee during 2021 fall camp.

He entered the transfer portal on Jan. 11 of this year.

Allen and Utah Taking on USC

Allen and the Utes will travel to the Coliseum this season. USC will host Utah on Oct. 21 in what will be one of the most anticipated Pac-12 matchups of the season. The teams played twice last season, with the regular-season matchup serving as one of the best college football games of 2022.

Utah is the two-time defending Pac-12 champion and will field another strong team in 2023.

It’ll be interesting to see if Allen can prove he’s fully healthy and make an impact in what promises to be another talented Utah secondary, led by safety Cole Bishop.
