In my humble opinion, cardinal and gold thoughts on what I see, what I hear, and what I think from Los Angeles: Taleni: Every spring practice brings forth an element of surprise, and next Saturday’s opening of spring ball for the USC Trojans will be no different. There will be USC players that seem to have matured overnight in the off-season through Bennie Wylie’s football sports performance program and either become part of the next season’s rotation and/or eventually springboard their way into the starting lineup. Measuring development and progress can be the most intriguing aspect of the upcoming proceedings. Taleni – Part 2: So, who is or who are going to be those players this spring that throw their hat – or should we say helmet – in the ring and make a statement by their development? One obvious choice - at the moment - is the oldest player on the team, who was one of Lincoln Riley’s original transfer ventures, a player originally out of Western Samoa by way of Kansas State. Last season, it seemed like defensive tackle Tyrone Taleni was just starting to scratch the surface of what appears to be some remaining untapped development, and spring will be another Taleni measuring stick.
