In my humble opinion, cardinal and gold thoughts on what I see, what I hear, and what I think from Los Angeles. Fried Rice: If you were one of the announced 60,113 melting fans in the scorching Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon who were just trying to survive the oppressive heat or if you were one of the cardinal and gold fans relaxing in the cool comforts of your air conditioned living room watching Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12) fry Rice, 66-24, in a Coli gridiron wok, there are still reasonable and valid questions in the cardinal and gold victory: like what did the win prove for the present and/or the future? Fried Rice - Part 2: Yes, while the trouncing was satisfying to the palate at the expense of a plateful of Rice University - an underwhelming team that got its 60 minutes of football vacation time in L.A. and a handsome payday - the simple truth is things get exponentially more serious next Saturday afternoon when the Men of Troy travel north for their Pac-12 opener against the Stanford Cardinal (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12), which will look more like the Los Angeles Rams compared to the Rice Owls in terms of competence and talent.
