Injuries and backups were a big part of the leadup to this game between the No. 11 USC Trojans (2-0) and No. 18 Michigan Wolverines (2-1). The Big Ten availability report shined a bright spotlight on one of those ahead of this huge Big Ten matchup.

Michigan tight end Colston Loveland will not play for the Wolverines today. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound tight end is arguably the best player at his position in the nation and the top receiver for Michigan. He leads the Wolverines with 19 receptions for 187 yards this season. The next-best for Michigan in each stat belongs to wide receiver Semaj Morgan, who has nine receptions for 56 yards.

Michigan will also be without running back Jordan Marshall, linebackers Jason Hewlett and Micah Pollard and defensive backs Jaden Mangham and Rod Moore. Quarterback Jack Tuttle and linebacker Jimmy Rolder are both listed as questionable.

USC’s injury report is light, as expected. Backup center Kilian O’Connor suffered a knee injury against Utah State and will miss this game. Backup offensive lineman Micah Banuelos is also listed as out.

There are notable names not listed for USC. Linebacker Mason Cobb sat out the Utah State game due to injury and is back for this one. Defensive back Jaylin Smith dressed for the game against the Aggies but did not see the field. Head coach Lincoln Riley said he was a very late scratch in that one. Smith looks ready to go for this one. Linebacker Eric Gentry missed a bit of practice following the Utah State game but Riley said repeatedly he’d be available for Michigan. He’s not listed in the availability report and looks ready to go.
