USC’s Isaiah Mobley and Drew Peterson were named 2022 Pac-12 All-Conference First Team selections on Tuesday.

Mobley has been a consistent presence all season for the Trojans. He leads the team with 14.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, good for sixth in scoring and second in rebounding in the conference. His 27 blocks tied for the team lead. His 91 assists rank second and his 23 steals are tied for second.

Mobley scored in double figures in 23 of the 29 games in which he played this season. He also went for 20 or more points six times, including three-straight outings back in December. All three of those games were double-doubles for Mobley, who finished with six such games this season.

Mobley was a preseason Pac-12 First Team selection.

Peterson was not a first or second-team preseason All-Conference selection. But his performance is a major reason the Trojans set a school record with 25 regular-season wins and are the No. 3 seed in this week’s conference tournament.

Peterson finished the regular season second on the team in scoring at 12.5 points per game. He also tied for second in rebounds, with 6.4 per game. His 106 assists were good for the team lead, his 23 steals tied for second and 26 blocks were third.

Peterson earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors twice this season. And he finished the season scoring in double figures in eight games in a row.

He did a bit of everything for the Trojans this season and posted one of the absolutely memorable performances in recent seasons with his big game against UCLA in February. Peterson finished that 67-64 win with 27 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, four assists and a steal on nearly 70% shooting from the floor.

USC heads to the postseason

USC will begin its postseason play on Thursday with an 8:30 pm tipoff against either Utah or Washington. The Utes are the No. 11 seed and the Huskies are the No. 6. USC beat both teams handily (Utah twice) during the regular season.

A win on Thursday would mean another 8:30 pm tip on Friday, likely against the No. 3 seed UCLA, which will take on the winner of No. 7 Washington State and No. 10 Cal.

USC is projected as the top No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament right now. The Trojans were positioned as a 6 seed until the back-to-back losses against Arizona and UCLA to finish the season. USC will have an opportunity to put a couple of quality wins on the resume in the tournament against UCLA and, if they win that, potentially against Arizona in the final.
