On Saturday night, USC wide receiver Kyron Hudson recorded by far the best game of his college career to date. The redshirt freshman caught three passes for 46 yards, including an impressive 25-yarder. In addition, Hudson hauled in his first touchdown as a Trojan, on a two-yard pass from quarterback Caleb Williams.

Following the game, Hudson caught up with WeAreSC’s Erik McKinney on his big night.

“Caleb gave me the route,” said Hudson. “I heard when I got to the sideline that he kind of blew Coach Riley off, saying, ‘just let me get this.’. And then he just threw me the touchdown, which I was truly blessed for.”

Hudson arrived at USC last year as one of the highlights of USC’s 2021 recruiting class. According to On3 Consensus, Hudson was a four-star recruit, and the number 161 overall player in his class.

Despite his recruiting ranking, however, Hudson did not see immediate playing time at USC. The young wide receiver redshirted last year, with his only two receptions coming in the season finale against Cal.

This year, however, Hudson has taken on a bigger role. Despite the additions of highly-touted transfers such as Jordan Addison, Mario Williams, Brenden Rice, and Terrell Bynum, Hudson has seemed to carve out a role for himself in USC’s crowded wide receiver room. Through five games, he has recorded seven receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown, with more than half of that production coming Saturday against Arizona State.

“Just playing the role that coach put me in and executing,” Hudson said of his mindset going into the game. “It was truly a blessing. I just thank God and my team for putting me in a position to make that play.”

Hudson and the Trojans are back in action on Saturday afternoon when USC hosts Washington State.
