LeBron James 'Couldn't Lose' Following Son Bronny James' Commitment to USC
LeBron James helped the Los Angeles Lakers secure a 127-97 win over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. But the basketball superstar said after the game that his biggest win of the day came much earlier. That was when his son and elite basketball prospect Bronny James, announced his commitment to USC.
The younger James announced his commitment to USC in an Instagram post.
“One of the best days of my life,” the elder James told Lakers reporter Mike Trudell before coming off the court after the playoff win.
“First of all, congratulations to Bronny on the decision he made,” James continued. “Super proud of him. Our family is proud of him.”
James said it’s especially big for him because it’s the first time someone in his family will attend college.
The four-star guard, who is a five-star prospect and the nation’s No. 9 overall recruit in the 2023 On3 Rankings, gives USC three elite prospects in this class. Point guard Isaiah Collier is the nation’s No. 1 recruit and forward Arrinten Page checks in at No. 55 overall. James is the nation’s No. 23 overall recruit in the On3 Industry Rankings, and no lower than the No. 26 overall recruit by any of the recruiting services.
“Just super-duper excited and happy for his journey,” LeBron said of his son. “And today was a proud day. I couldn’t lose today. No matter the outcome of this game, I couldn’t lose today.”

All eyes will be on James this season as USC basketball adds another huge name to the roster. James and Collier will be two of the most-watched true freshmen on the men’s side this fall. And on the women’s side, No. 1 overall prospect JuJu Watkins has an opportunity to become the face of women’s basketball.
USC hasn’t always done well when it comes to drawing crowds for its basketball programs. But the Galen Center will absolutely be a destination this season considering both the players on the court and the names sitting courtside.
More From LeBron James
James again spoke about his son committing to USC during his post-game press conference.
“Congratulations to my son on his next journey and picking a great university in USC,” James said. “To my knowledge, this is the first one out of the James gang to go to college…So it’s very, very, very exciting, very humbling. And a great moment for our family.
“He’s a great kid,” James continued. “USC is getting a great kid. Obviously, he’s there to play basketball, but they’re going to be super surprised at how great of a kid he is, even though they’ve been recruiting him for quite a while…It’s amazing. It is.”
