USC linebacker Chris Thompson Jr. is the latest Trojan to enter his name into the transfer portal this offseason.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder arrived at USC as a safety ahead of the 2021 season as a transfer from Auburn. He saw action in five games, starting twice, and finished the season with 11 tackles. Thompson played safety, nickel and was impactful on special teams that season.

Ahead of the 2022 season, Thompson moved to inside linebacker. There, he could never quite push forward to make the same kind of impact. He played in just four games and made one tackle in 2022. This past fall, he played in all 12 games and made eight tackles, with most of his impact coming on special teams.

USC Trojans in the transfer portal this offseason

Prior to Thompson going into the transfer portal, five other Trojans entered over the past few weeks.

Defensive tackle Jamar Sekona, safety Xamarion Gordon, running back Darwin Barlow, tight end Jude Wolfe and running back Matt Colombo are all in and searching for new schools. Right now, the portal is only open to graduate transfers and players whose coaches have been fired or left for new jobs. On Monday, the portal will open for 30 days to all football players. Wide receiver Raleek Brown previously announced plans to enter his name into the portal when it opens for the first window.
