Linebacker Ta'Mere Robinson Commits to USC

Former Penn State linebacker transfer Ta’Mere Robinson has committed to USC and head coach Lincoln Riley out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Robinson will have three years of collegiate eligibility remaning.
The 6-foot-3, 223-pound linebacker played in parts of eight games last season as a redshirt freshman. He finished the year with 11 tackles, including half a sack. Robinson didn’t play a lot inside linebacker in high school and was making that transition to the spot in college. It didn’t click right away but the potential is clearly there for Robinson.
What USC gets in Robinson
Robinson was the nation’s No. 247 overall prospect and No. 27 linebacker in the 2023 On3 Industry Ranking. On3 Director of Scouting said at the time of Robinson:

“Long defender with range and on-field athleticism. Plays multiple spots for his high school defense but projects as an off-ball linebacker with the possibility of growing into a pass rusher long term. One of the longer linebacker prospects in the 2023 cycle. Measured 6-foot-3, 225 pounds with a 33.25-inch arm prior to his senior season. Moves well at his size. Can track down plays in pursuit. Shows some signs of being able to play in space at the high school level, where he’s asked to play safety or nickel at times. Still developing in terms of instincts. Missed a significant portion of his junior season after having surgery for a knee injury.”
None of USC’s eventual transfer portal additions at linebacker will likely be demanded to step into a starting role this season as the Trojans bring back Eric Gentry and the buzz surrounding Desman Stephens II this spring has been at a fever pitch.
Riley has talked highly of the linebacker position this spring and redshirt freshman Jadyn Walker is putting himself in a position to see time this spring. But D’Anton Lynn clearly wanted to put three linebackers on the field against all of the run-first Big Ten teams last season and the Trojans can’t get anywhere near a true two-deep at three linebacker spots right now. It stands to a reason a couple of players could be added at the position this spring.
