Pregame
USC knows its in for a tough one at Utah and Rice-Eccles Stadium. Utah has asked its fans to black out the stadium by wearing black and the Utes will be in special uniforms and helmets for this game. The Trojans hope to be better prepared for a road atmosphere than they were for Oregon State, where it took USC three quarters to get going.
* USC linebacker Shane Lee is out early for warmups. He sat out last week’s game and had a cast over his hand and wrist. He’s still wearing the cast but is dressed to play against Utah.
* Nick Figueroa is warming up with the rush ends before the game. He’s been with the defensive line this season but could provide another big body at that spot against the power running game of Utah. The Trojans have also been a little light at that spot since losing Romello Height to injury in the second game of the season.
* USC cornerback Domani Jackson is not warming up with the cornerbacks. True freshman Fabian Ross made the trip and is warming up with the corners.
* USC wins the toss and elects to receive.
First Quarter
* Big first start for USC as the Trojans use a 55-yard run by Caleb Williams to score on its opening drive. The touchdown came on an 8-yard run by Travis Dye. It’s 7-0 USC with 13:16 remaining in the first quarter.
* Caleb Williams hits Jordan Addison for a 2-yard touchdown. It’s 14-0 USC with 4:53 left in the first quarter. Dream start for USC.
* Utah gets on the board with a 12-yard touchdown run by Micah Bernard. That comes one play after an absolutely terrible roughing the passer call against Stanley Ta’ufo’ou wiped out what should have been an interception by Calen Bullock. It’s 14-7 USC.
Second Quarter
* USC gets a 65-yard pass from Williams to Williams and finishes the drive with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Kyron Hudson. It’s 21-7 USC with 14:20 left in the second quarter.
* Utah quarterback Cameron Rising scores on a 2-yard run. It’s 21-14 USC with 4:01 left in the first half.

* Huge touchdown from USC to get in with just 1:15 remaining before halftime. Caleb Williams hits Josh Falo for a 3-yard touchdown pass.
* Utah goes 70 yards in 45 seconds on five plays and scores on a 16-yard pass from Rising to wide receiver Devaughn Vele. It’s 28-21 USC with 30 seconds remaining in the first half.
Third Quarter
* Utah with another easy march down the field to tie the game at 28-28. Rising finds a wide open Dalton Kincaid for a 4-yard touchdown. There’s 12:02 left in the third quarter.
* Big response from USC. Williams to Falo for the second time tonight. This time from 11 yards out. Trojans go back up 35-28 with 11:02 left in the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
* USC scores on a 20-yard TD pass from Caleb Williams to Michael Jackson lll with 6:15 remaining in the game. Trojans 42, Utah 35
* Utah scores on a fourth down 1-yard keep by QB Cam Rising. Utah will go for 2-point conversion.
* Utah converts 2-point conversion with run by Rising. Utah leads 43-42 with 48 seconds remaining.
* Big return by Raleek Brown but there is a holding penalty by USC’s Brenden Rice.
* USC called for a false start now 1-15 on the SC 15-yard line with 38 seconds remaining.
* Time runs out with a desperation pass by Caleb Williams, and Utah wins 43-42 to hand USC its first loss of the season.
