USC finishes off a dominant 66-14 win over Rice to open the 2022 college football season.

Fourth Quarter

* Raleek Brown with a 40-yard catch-and-run from Miller Moss. That sets up a short touchdown run by Darwin Barlow. USC now up 66-14 with 6:11 remaining.

* And USC is off to a 1-0 start on this 2022 season as the Trojans finish off a 66-14 domination of Rice.

Third Quarter

* That was quick. Shane Lee records an interception on a batted pass on the third snap of the second half and returns it for a touchdown. USC up 38-14.

* And now Ralen Goforth gets in on the act. He picks off a pass and returns it 31 yards for a touchdown. USC now leads 45-14.

* After an interception by Xamarion Gordon (which WAS NOT returned for a touchdown), Caleb Williams hits Jordan Addison for a short touchdown pass. USC goes up 52-14 and it’s the second time those two have hooked up for a score today.

Second Quarter

* Austin Jones goes in from four yards out and USC now has two touchdowns on two offensive possessions. USC is up 14-17.

* True freshman Raleek Brown takes a handoff, escapes a defender in the backfield and runs 14 yards for a touchdown. He’s going to be a star in this offense. USC now leads 21-7 with 10:49 left in the second quarter.

* The defense makes a big play and gets its first turnover on the day. Calen Bullock picks off a tipped pass and returns it 93 yards for a touchdown. Bullock is always around the ball and it pays off here. USC now leads 28-7 with 8:05 left in the second quarter.

* USC rush end Romello Height is ejected for targeting.

* Rice keeps the ball after the Height penalty and finishes a 10-play drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. USC now leads 28-14 with 1:35 left before halftime.

* USC finishes the first half with Denis Lynch hitting a 25-yard field goal as time expires. The Trojans will take a 31-14 lead into the locker room.

First Quarter

USC wins the toss and elects to receive.

Touchdown Trojans. The Trojans take their first possession 75 yards in 7 plays. Quarterback Caleb Williams connects with Jordan Addison on a 5-yard touchdown pass for their first scores in cardinal and gold. 7-0 USC.

* Rice answers with a long touchdown drive of its own. The Owls go 74 yards in 16 plays and use 8:02 off the clock. USC forced a few third downs and a fourth but couldn’t make the play to stop it. 7-7 with 3:09 left in the first quarter. It’s 7-7 with 3:09 remaining in the first quarter.

First quarter comes to an end. USC has the ball at the Rice 14-yard line facing a second-and-five. Teams are tied 7-7.
