RJ Sermons

Three weeks ago after learning it a commitment in the near future was likely coming for top 25 2026 RJ Sermons, I submitted a USC prediction.

On Friday Sermons announced his verbal pledge to the same school his father, Rodney Sermons, played football at in the 1990’s. If a program like USC’s going to succeed in prioritizing talent located in Southern California, better start with the elite legacies like Sermons.

Prior to my prediction, Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons had submitted their predictions for the Trojans, so this commitment from the Rancho Cucamonga star cornerback wasn’t a surprise for anyone from On3.

Sermons shared his thoughts on USC defensive backs coach Doug Belk. Belk also gained a commitment from UCF DB transfer Chasen Johnson on Thursday night. We’ve also submitted a USC prediction for San Jose State DB transfer DJ Harvey who’s visiting today.

“Coach (Doug) Belk, I really like him,” said Sermons. “He has a great track record of previous defensive backs and just previous greatness. And he’s a great person. Him and my dad kind of go back a little bit. He’s just cool it feels like family at USC.

Sermons also shared his thoughts on the USC football program and Los Angeles itself.

“Every time I go to USC, it’s always a great time. Me and my dad (Rodney Sermons) always like it, so I’ll be back as many times as possible. I love the environment and everything about it is great. I’ve been around LA since I was little and the football is great. There’s a lot of places that try to be like it, but I feel like there’s no place like LA.”

USC has the No. 3 ranked 2026 recruiting class with pledges from Sermons, four-star Edge Braden Jones, three-star CB Madden Riordan, four-star CB Brandon Lockhart, four-star Edge Xavier Griffin, four-star WR Ja’Myron Baker and three-star ATH Joshua Holland
