New "Inside the Trojans' Huddle" (Sept. 6): Rice review, Stanford preview, USC/Stanford memories, Musings with Arledge, Pac-12 predictions, CFP expansion, and more...

For this week’s “Inside the Trojans’ Huddle”, panelists Marc Kulkin, Chris Arledge, Kevin Bruce and moderator Greg Katz review the Rice game, preview Saturday’s Stanford game, recall good and bad memories of the USC/Stanford rivalry, Musings with Arledge, College Football Playoff expansion, Pac-12 weekly predictions, and conclude with viewer questions and panel answers.
In the first quarter, the panel discusses and analyzes the big win over Rice University. The panel was quite unanimous on the offense’s performance, but there was some difference of opinions as it pertained to the defensive performance and what was learned.
In the second quarter, the panel gives their thoughts on what they expect when the Trojans play at Stanford on Saturday in Palo Alto. The panel has some unique perspectives on what it will take to beat the Cardinal. Was the winning formula ball control? Is it the performance of the Trojans’ front 7 on defense? Is it the talent difference? Will it be the performance of the Trojans’ secondary against the Stanford wide receiver attack? Is it the team that wants it more?
For the halftime segment, the panel gives their good and bad memories of the USC/Stanford rivalry. Most agree that 2007 comes to mind when discussing the greatest Trojans loss to the Cardinal and, yes, it involves former Trojans’ head coach Pete Carroll. As for the most memorable victory, was it a very late field goal in the late 60s or a USC interim head coach’s unlikely upset of the lads from Palo Alto?
In the third quarter, the panel gives their opinions on the College Football Playoff’s official announcement that the post-season tournament will expand from a four-team playoff to a 12-team format. The panel was in total agreement when it comes to expanding to the new playoff team numbers, but there is disagreement when the new 12-team format is implemented. Will it be 2024, 2025, or 2026 season?

In the traditional transition between the third and fourth quarter, Inside the Trojans’ Huddle presents Musings with Arledge. In this episode of MWA, Chris gives his review of Oregon’s embarrassing loss against Georgia, and the effects of Clay Helton’s first victory by his Georgia Southern team over mighty Morgan State. If you know Arledge, the prosecution, sarcasm, similes, and metaphors are flying.
In the fourth quarter, the panel gives its predictions on each Pac-12 team for Week 2. Most of the games picked were no-brainers, but what about that Oregon State at Fresno State? The panel is divided on this one. It’s interesting because the Trojans next two opponents after Stanford are Fresno State in the Coli and then Oregon State in Corvallis. Two other games that came under scrutiny are Mississippi State at Arizona and ASU at Oklahoma State. And, of course, the panel gives it final thoughts and predictions on the Trojans at Stanford.
And in Overtime, the panel answers viewer questions revolving around the Trojans victory over Rice and Stanford concerns. A number of viewer questions were concentrated on the defense – specifically the D-line. Other questions include a viewer question regarding the MVPs for the Trojans victory over Rice on offense and defense, and another viewer had questions about the depth chart as it pertained to the “Mike” and “Will” linebacker positions.
