Four-star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei Edge Shaun Scott announced his commitment to USC on Sunday May 11. The Trojans are pursuing Scott as a linebacker and linebackers coach Rob Ryan is now leading the charge for USC.

Scott’s top school choices were USC, Michigan, Miami and Washington.

The 6-foot-3 235-pounder will commit in just over 24 hours, he announced on X Saturday afternoon. Scott does not have an official top schools list, but there is a program trending, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

USC has been considered a top contender for Scott since his freshman year and had him on campus multiple times this spring, in large part because of the relationship Shaun Nua developed with him.

“They’re taking California very serious,” said Scott. “I talk to them mostly every day and they tell me every day I’m a priority. They tell me how well I fit in their defense and they want to get me over there. They see me fitting into their defense as a a stack backer, and then on third down coming in to rush the quarterback.

“I definitely see myself playing early. They have three graduates, two walk ons, so I can definitely see myself playing early. I got a relationship with every coach. It started from my freshman year with coach Nua and that carried on to the new staff and with Rob Ryan, Chad Bowden and Coach Henny (Eric Henderson) went to work too. So that that’s really big. Yeah. My biggest relationship now is with Rob Ryan.”

“He’s a great friend off the field,” Scott said. “He’s always got my back no matter what. And he’s a great person, he’s a family guy, so he’s big. And on the field, you know, he’s a monster. So he makes my job easier too. He takes a little bit of load off me too, like, with double teaming needs and blows up plays, wreaks some great havoc. He’s tough to move to the back. So he’s a great player to be on the field with.”

On3 Industry Ranking

Scott is the No. 340 overall prospect and No. 37 EDGE in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 31 player in California.
