The Obvious: If you’re a USC football player looking forward to the first day of spring practice that begins Sunday on Howard Jones/Brian Kennedy Fields, you’re itching for the opportunity to retain your 2022 starting position or earn a 2023 starting position by the end of the 15 days of spring ball or have the opportunity to be in next season’s rotation mix. The Not So Obvious: For a vast majority of the players, that begins with physical and mental competition on Sunday. However, there’s probably just one player that will remain No. 2 on the depth chart no matter how well he performs now or potentially in 2023. If you’re sophomore quarterback Miller Moss, playing behind returning 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams is a reality check that unless there’s an unforeseen injury to Williams, Moss will be No. 2 and remain in the USC quarterback bullpen until needed.
