USC sophomore Raleek Brown is active for the Trojans against the Washington Huskies after sitting out the previous eight games. It remains to be seen how much of an impact he will have against Washington, but seeing him in a cardinal and gold uniform again is a welcome sight.

Brown warmed up with the running backs and also took the field with the special teams returners about an hour before kickoff.

The former four-star prospect was active for USC in the season opener against San Jose State and caught one pass for 14 yards. Following that, Brown began working with the scout team and was not in uniform for USC’s next home game against Nevada. The feeling at the time was that Brown would very likely sit out the remainder of the season and use his redshirt. Though, head coach Lincoln Riley kept open the possibility of Brown playing for the Trojans this season.

The 5-foot-8, 185-pounder broke onto the scene last year in his first game with USC. Brown had 76 yards of offense and hit a Heisman pose after his first college touchdown. Brown finished the season with 42 carries for 227 yards and three touchdowns, to go along with 16 receptions for 175 yards and three more scores. Brown also settled in as the team’s primary kickoff returner.

Brown played running back for the Trojans last season, though he was split out wide at times and caught at least two passes in each of the final five games of the year. This spring, he made the move to wide receiver full-time. Riley was consistent in his thoughts that Brown was coming along but it could take a little bit for Brown to fully grasp the position.

USC’s offense has been one of the best in the nation this season. But this game figured to be a slugfest between two offensive heavyweights. Any additional playmakers USC can put out there will be helpful against the undefeated Huskies.
