USC fans got a taste of what Raleek Brown brings to this Trojan offense. Then they got a sense of the goals the true freshman has during his time at USC.

On USC’s third drive of the game, Brown took a handoff from quarterback Caleb Williams and was met by a Rice defender four yards in the backfield. While finishing the handoff, Brown use a stiff arm to separate from the defender and escaped around the left end. Fourteen yards later, Brown got into the endzone and finished the score with a baseball slide after getting tripped at the goal line.

It was the first touchdown of what promises to be an extremely productive college career. And Brown’s celebration sent a message to all those watching.

Brown later added a 40 yards receiving on a long catch-and-run play in the fourth quarter. He injured his lower leg on the play and came out of the game, but his impact had been felt. Brown finished with 76 total yards and a touchdown on eight touches.

Wide receiver Jordan Addison knew what was coming from Brown in this game as part of the USC offense.

“He showed us that all fall camp,” Addison said. “He just showed ya’ll that today. You got a chance to see it. We’ve been seeing it. He’s going to be an explosive threat for us.”

Running back Austin Jones shook his head a bit when asked about Brown after the game.

“It amazes me sitting back at practice through fall camp, and I’m like, this dude is real,” Jones said. “You got to see a little bit of it today, but he’s a baller.”

Jones was also a fan of Brown’s celebratory pose.

“I thought it was hard,” he said with a smile.

Big Things Ahead for Brown

USC has produced seven Heisman Trophy winners in its history and it’s clear Brown sees No. 8 within his potential grasp over the coming years. He didn’t hesitate to hit the Heisman pose after scoring his first touchdown.

It was an audacious statement from a player who just touched the ball for the third time in his college career. But Brown has always carried that kind of confidence in his abilities. And it’s not as if it’s the first time he’s been a standout this fall.

USC players and coach began buzzing about Brown early in camp. Running back coach Kiel McDonald said Brown “has real juice.”

There were more platitudes extended following one of USC’s fall camp scrimmages. This time is was fellow running back Travis Dye, who project major things for Brown.

“Raleek Brown always stands out to me,” Dye said during camp. “Catching, running, his style of run, the way he moves, it’s pretty second-to-none. I see that kid winning a lot of awards coming in the future. I really do.”
