Report: Bronny James Suffers Cardiac Arrest During Practice
Incoming USC freshman Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest during a practice on Monday, according to a report from The Athletic’s NBA Insider Shams Charania. Jame is in stable condition and has been released from the ICU.
Charania posted a statement from the representatives of James’ family:
“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest,” the statement said. “Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information. LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciate to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”
This is the second consecutive offseason a USC player has suffered a cardiac arrest during a summer practice or workout. Last year, incoming five-star center Vince Iwuchukwu collapsed on the court during an informal team practice. The immediate care he received from the USC medical staff was key to his eventual recovery and earned significant attention.

Iwuchukwu was eventually cleared to return to action in the 17th game of USC’s 2022-23 season. He played in 14 games for the Trojans last year.
James was set to be a pivotal depth piece as a 3-and-D weapon on the wing as a true freshman. Obviously, the hope at this point is that James gets whatever care he needs in his recovery and can potentially begin the path back to basketball.
