Get ready to watch the first game of the Lincoln Riley era at USC with the Huddle. It contains all the names, news, notes and numbers you need to watch your Trojans take on the Rice Owls this Saturday.

The Huddle: USC vs Rice

Saturday promises to be a significant day in USC football history with the Trojan debuts of Lincoln Riley, quarterback Caleb Williams, wide receiver Jordan Addison, linebacker Eric Gentry and plenty of others.

The Trojans are looking to erase all memories of a 4-8 season in 2021 that included the dismissal of head coach Clay Helton following a loss to Stanford in the second game of the season. USC lost its final four games of the season. And the Trojans dropped rivalry games against Cal, Notre Dame, Stanford and UCLA by a combined 68 points.

A big win against Rice to start the season would kickstart the Riley era.

The Rice Game

WeAreSC had a few Rice preview stories, including the in-depth opponent preview as well as the first game-week Obvious/Not So Obvious of the season.

Also, if you’re going to the game on Saturday, make sure you’re there early enough to participate in the Trojan Walk, which returns this season.

The 2022 USC Trojans

Ahead of the game, familiarize yourself with new defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and what he’s done at previous stops. Grinch said this week he’s looking forward to the defense finally getting on the field and facing some adversity.

Head coach Lincoln Riley is feeling similarly. All the way back on Monday he said this game couldn’t get here quickly enough.

USC’s two midweek practices are going to be as physical as possible. WeAreSC was there Tuesday and Wednesday to get Notes & Observations.

And Lincoln Riley also took time early this week to announce the four captains for the USC football team this season.
