The USC Trojans are through Day 7 of 2025 spring ball and WeAreSC has some tidbits from viewing the open portion of practice and hearing from head coach Lincoln Riley and players.

* Riley was asked about transfer defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett.

“We’ve been really pleased with the effort that he played with, the intensity,” Riley said. “And he trained that way this winter.”

Jarrett said last week a big key for him this offseason was focusing on using his hands better. Riley said they’ve seen that as halfway through spring you can see Jarrett’s fundamentals improving.

“He’s starting to play lower, starting to play out of his hips more, starting to use his hands better,” Riley said. Everything with the guy is improving. When the fundamentals get better when you’ve got a talent like that, you start to see some of the results behind it.”

* Riley highlighted the play of two players specifically as taking big steps forward this offseason: Offensive tackle Tobias Raymond and defensive end Lorenzo Cowan.

“Tobias has established himself as one of our best offensive linemen,” Riley said. “That’s happened this spring.”

“Zo Cowan has had a really nice spring camp up to this point,” Riley said. “One of the guys, along with Tobias, that we actually pointed out to the team in the team meeting yesterday as two guys that you kind of feel have really taken a jump right now. Real proud of their development.”

* Wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane has been highlighted seemingly every day by the USC video team as he’s made great catch after great catch this spring. Quarterback Jayden Maiava commented:

“The spectacular plays that he makes on the field, that’s no surprise,” Maiava said. “That’s who Ja’Kobi is. He’s going to go up and make those plays. Every time the ball comes his way he’s going to make something happen. It’s no surprise. One-on-one ball, it’s really just his.”
