The USC Trojans are through Day 7 of 2025 spring ball and WeAreSC has some tidbits from viewing the open portion of practice and hearing from head coach Lincoln Riley and players.

* USC doesn’t have to get ready for a game right now but it’s always good news to get injured players back on the field. Both defensive tackle Keeshawn Silver and wide receiver Makai Lemon have been limited with injuries to this point in camp. Riley said Silver was dealing with a knee issue and Lemon a hamstring. But both were dressed in uniform today and participated in the portion of practice viewable by media.

* Riley said second-year cornerback Marcelles Williams is “right in the middle of it” when it comes to the competition for a starting spot in the secondary. He said Williams had a “really good spring” and a “solid camp,” adding that the biggest thing for Williams last season was adding weight and strength. Williams has done that and Riley said he sees more confidence athletically from the young cornerback right now.

* USC made a recent position switch for Ratumana Bulavalavu as the former defensive tackle is now working with the offensive line. Riley said it’s a full-time switch right now as he’s only working on offense, but the coaches will continue to monitor that as time goes on. Riley said Mana “has the ability to help this team on the offensive line or the defensive line,” adding that he put together some good practices on defense but flashed some things that made the coaches want to take a look at him on the other side. “He’s got some real natural ability on both,” Riley said.

* New defensive end Elijah Newby was really positive about the position switch from linebacker. He said he sees it as an opportunity and his speed makes him stand out there. Newby said he’s still hitting “21 miles per hour, plus” in testing.

* Offensive lineman Makai Saina is sidelined for a bit but Riley said they hope to have him back for the final week or so of spring.

* USC once again hosted a number of notable recruits. Class of 2026 commits were there in cornerback Brandon Lockhart, offensive lineman Esun Tafa and running back Deshonne Redeaux. Four-star wide receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt was in attendance, as were class of 2027 standouts in defensive tackle Elija Harmon, cornerback Jacob Whitehead and running back Noah Roberts as well as 2028 quarterback Chase Curren.
