USC running back Travis Dye will begin his NFL career with the New York Jets after signing as an undrafted free agent.

After serving as a workhorse back for much of his college career, Dye had a very unfortunate end to the 2022 season. Against Colorado, Dye went down with what turned out to be a broken fibula in his left ankle.

The scene on the field following the injury illustrated just how much Dye meant to the USC team. Every player on the roster came onto the field to surround Dye as he was lifted onto an injury cart and taken from the field. Dye stayed around the team for the remainder of the season. And he rehabbed well enough to participate in USC’s pro day this spring.

Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. Dye and the others were forced to run and test on a very wet field. Dye was clearly frustrated with the 40 time he posted that day.

But with all of that now in the past, Dye will now have an opportunity to launch his NFL career in New York.

Dye in College

Dye was as productive as it gets at the college level. In four years at Oregon, he rushed for 3,111 yards and 21 touchdowns. That accounted for a chunk of his 3,980 yards of offense and 29 total touchdowns.

The dynamic running back transferred to USC for his final college season. He grabbed the starting spot for the Trojans and quickly turned into a team leader. Despite having his season shortened by a serious injury, Dye still led USC with 884 yards on the ground and nine touchdowns. Dye caught 21 passes for 202 yards, giving him 1,086 yards of offense in 2022.

Despite missing the season’s final four games, Dye was still named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team. It was his second-straight second-team nod. He made the AP All-Pac-12 Second Team in 2021, as well as All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
