Two USC signees up for VYPE Houston Football Defensive Player of the Year
Two class of 2024 USC signees have picked up some postseason honors. This honor comes in the form of the VYPE Houston Public School Football Defensive Player Of The Year finalists.
What is interesting is that the winner of the award will be decided in a fan poll.
The post on VYPE simply reads:
“As the Football season has come to an end, it’s time for fans to pick who they believe should have the honor of being the VYPE HOU Public School Football Defensive Player Of The Year Fan Poll Presented By Sun & Ski Sports! Be sure to get your vote in!
Voting will remain open until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2nd.”
Bay City (Tex.) DL Carlon Jones
As it currently stands at 6:30 PT PM on Friday, January 26, Jones is currently the leader in the fan poll at 19.7% of the votes. There are currently 35 finalists listed on the fan poll.
Jones was a massive signing for USC as he provides a large bodied blue-chip defensive lineman to mold for the future. The Trojans beat out Ohio State for the one-time Nebraska commitment.
Jones is ranked as the No. 212 overall prospect and No. 24 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 38 player in Texas.
On3 is much higher on Jones than others in the industry, tabbing him as the No. 194 overall prospect and No. 17 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle.

Humble (Tex.) Atascocita CB Braylon Conley
A major discussion previously has been about Conley’s true position. The 6-foot, 170 pound defensive back is ranked by recruiting services as a safety, but the Trojans have recruited him to play cornerback at the next level.
In my opinion, based on my live evaluation this season, Conley has all the tools to be a starting outside cornerback. It is also likely all the cornerbacks in the 2024 class for the Trojans will be tested at both the boundary corner and slot corner positions, which will decide who fits where.
Conley is the No. 653 overall prospect and No. 66 safety in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 104 player in Texas.
