USC assistant Eric Henderson gets Rams standout Aaron Donald into cardinal and gold
Future NFL Hall-of-Famer Aaron Donald doesn’t have any college eligibility left, but he can still make an impact at this level.
New USC co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Eric Henderson hasn’t been on the job long, but he knows how much Donald’s name means to high school and college defensive linemen.
Anything that can connect Donald to USC can be used as a recruiting pitch and Henderson threw a fastball on Wednesday, posting a photo of himself and Donald both decked out in cardinal and gold.
While it’s true that Donald likely was on his way to a Hall-of-Fame career regardless of his position coaches, his stamp of approval for Henderson will absolutely resonate on the recruiting trail. It’s likely his name will be mentioned by just about any defensive linemen Henderson goes after in the upcoming recruiting classes.

Donald spoke very highly of Henderson while the two were working together with the Rams. Henderson made the move from the Chargers to the Rams ahead of the 2019 season and his addition made Donald attend OTA’s that year.
“One-hundred percent,” Donald said of whether Henderson was the reason he wanted to be at OTAs. “He’s definitely a guy – once I saw the drills, after I got to talk to him and get to pick his brain a little bit – he’s a big reason why I wanted to continue to learn and I felt like what he was teaching me could benefit me and help me a whole lot as far as improving my game. It’s like I always say, I want to get better, and that’s what I’ve got to do. Listen to coach and work it.”
Two years later, that bond was solidified.
“I love playing for him,” Donald said of Henderson. “He’s one of those coaches that understands how to communicate things to his players. As far as teaching certain techniques that I felt like is going to take my game to another level, just having two years with him and having two camps with him and being able to take his coaching and the things he’s trying to teach me and the way he breaks down film and things like that.”
