USC is on track to lose one of its most significant 2024 recruiting additions as center Jason Zandamela plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens next week. That, according to a report from On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Zandamela finished the 2024 cycle as the nation’s No. 118 overall prospect and No. 6 interior offensive lineman in the On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-3, 306-pound lineman was viewed as the USC center of the future and a big-time recruiting win for the Trojans over Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma and others.

Zandamela is a native of Mozambique, Africa and attended Clearwater Academy in Clearwater, Florida upon arriving to the United States. He was a rugby player before picking up football in America.

USC’s center position this season belongs to veteran Jonah Monheim, who has mostly played left and right tackle during his career with the Trojans but is needed inside this season. Monheim’s backup is walk-on Kilian O’Connor, but Zandamela was expected to push for that No. 2 spot as early as this fall.
