Notes and takeaways

The offensive linemen will be the ones to watch during pregame warmups as both Paige and O’Connor have returned to practice to some degree recently. USC head coach Lincoln Riley said during the bye week that it “was more realistic” that they could return soon. This week, he stopped well short of announcing their returns to the lineup.

“We’ll see how the week goes,” Riley said Tuesday. “We’re better. We’re not at a point where I’m like, ‘Yeah, no doubt, those guys are ready to go.’ We’re just not to that point yet.”

Paige’s return at left tackle would be a significant one as he was performing as one of USC’s best linemen before suffering an injury in Week 4 against Michigan State. Getting him back would allow the Trojans to pair Paige with Tobias Raymond at left guard, which was working as a strong duo before the injury.

Micah Banuelos is added to the “questionable” list today. If none of those three can go, it’s likely Kaylon Miller who would slot in at left guard to replace Banuelos.
