USC kicker Denis Lynch to enter NCAA transfer portal
Placekicker Denis Lynch announced Tuesday that he will enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
“Putting on the cardinal and gold means so much more to me than just putting on a jersey and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to do so,” Lynch posted to social media. “I want to thank all the coaches, trainers, strength staff, equipment staff, academic staff, and everyone else at USC who has helped me on my journey…I have decided to enter the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining.”
Lynch became USC’s starting kicker for head coach Lincoln Riley in 2022 and held that job through the 2023 season. He went 15-of-22 on field goals and made all 74 of his extra points during the 2022 season. That included a significant 49-yard field goal against UCLA at the end of the first half to help the Trojans win that game.

In 2023, he connected on 10-of-14 field goals and 65-of-66 extra points. But Lynch missed a surprising number of makeable field goals over those two seasons, going just 9-of-17 from between 30 and 39 yards despite hitting 10-of-10 from between 40 and 49.
USC brought in veteran kicker Michael Lantz from the transfer portal out of Georgia Southern and he took over duties as the field goal kicker and kickoff specialist for the Trojans in 2024. There were some hiccups again in the field goal kicking game but head coach Lincoln Riley never made the move to Lynch off the bench.
