USC’s senior linebacker was not among the 90 players named to the preseason Bednarik Award Watch List. It stands to reason he’ll be added during the season if he continues his play from the first three games of the season. USC safety Kamari Ramsey was the lone Trojan representative on the Watch List.
Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced on Nov. 11. The finalists will be named on Nov. 25. The winner will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11. The Bednarik Award has been presented by the Maxwell Football Club to the best college football defensive player of the year. Former USC linebacker Rey Maualuga is the only Trojan to have won the award, earning the honor following his 2008 season.
