The USC Trojans put on a first-half clinic against the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday night and were rewarded with a bump in both the AP and Coaches polls this week. The Trojans are now the No. 5 team in both polls, moving up from their No. 6 spot last week.

There are a different set of four teams ahead of the Trojans in each poll, but the one-spot rise was made possible by Alabama’s 34-24 loss to Texas. The Crimson Tide were the No. 3 team in both polls last week and now sit at No. 10 in each. Texas jumped USC in the AP poll, but the Trojans still rose one spot as they flipped with Ohio State following the Buckeyes’ 35-7 win against Youngstown State.

USC used a dominant first half against Stanford to run out to a 49-3 halftime lead and eventually coasted to a 56-10 win. The Trojans have scored at least 56 points in all three wins this season and the ten points allowed to Stanford were the fewest USC has given up under head coach Lincoln Riley and defensive coordinator Alex Grinch.

The Pac-12 is extremely well-represented in the polls this week. Eight of the 12 teams in the conference are ranked in the AP poll. Seven Pac-12 teams are ranked in the Coaches poll, with Washington State the first team among the “others receiving votes” in that one.
