USC officially announces D'Anton Lynn as new defensive coordinator
USC head coach Lincoln Riley officially announced D’Anton Lynn as the Trojans’ new defensive coordinator on Friday night.
“We are thrilled to welcome D’Anton and his family to USC,” said Riley. “We simply couldn’t ask for a better addition to our staff. His successful experiences in both college and the NFL make him the perfect fit for our program. I hope you will join me in welcoming him to the Trojan Family.”
Lynn has spent just one season coaching at the college level and one season as a coordinator. But it was an impressive one as he helped to completely transform the UCLA defense this season.
The Bruins finished No. 16 in the nation in scoring defense, No. 11 in total defense, No. 2 in rushing defense and No. 71 in passing defense.
UCLA harassed opposing offenses all season. The Bruins were No. 4 in both sacks and tackles for loss, tied for No. 10 in forced fumbles and tied for No. 15 in interceptions. UCLA gave up just three rushing touchdowns and was the only team in the nation not to allow a run of at least 20 yards.

Prior to his year with the Bruins, Lynn coached in the NFL for nine seasons. He began as an intern with the New York Jets in 2014 before moving to the Buffalo Bills and then Los Angeles Chargers as a defensive assistant. Lynn coached the secondary for the Houston Texas from 2018-2020, then took over as the safeties coach for the Baltimore Ravens in 2021 and 2022.
Lynn’s father is Anthony Lynn, the assistant head coach of the San Francisco 49ers and former head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. And Lynn was a standout college football player at Penn State, named All-Big Ten three times during his career with the Nittany Lions.
