After Spring Ball concluded in May and 100 days prior to kickoff of this past season, On3’s Charles Power and Clark Brooks broke down the top 100 players in college football for the 2023 season.

The top of the list — unsurprisingly — was reigning Heisman Trophy winner. Caleb Williams sits at No. 1, closely followed by North Carolina signal-caller Drake Maye at No. 2. They were viewed as the two top quarterbacks in college football this past preseason, and according to On3, were also viewed as the two best players to take the field in 2023.

USC had Williams, Calen Bullock, Justin Dedich, Dorian Singer and Jonah Monheim on the list.

Monheim was a vital part of the USC offensive line and had a strong season at Left Tackle. He also played some Guard in the Holiday Bowl. One of the biggest concerns this offseason was what Lincoln Riley and Josh Henson would do if Monheim decided to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Monheim Returning to USC in 2024

On Saturday WeAreSC learned Monheim plans to return in 2024. He has 40 career appearances and 34 starts in his USC career. Those starts have come in 18 games at right tackle, 12 at left tackle and four at right guard.

He’s been named All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention each of the past two seasons and was USC’s highest-graded starting offensive linemen by PFF this past season in overall, pass blocking and run blocking categories. His experience and positional versatility will be invaluable as USC looks to build a strong offensive line in front of a new starting quarterback and take on an extremely difficult 2024 regular season schedule.

Monheim was a four-star recruit for the Trojans in the 2020 recruiting class. He was one of six offensive linemen signed in that group and will be the only one to finish his career with the Trojans.

Possible 2024 Position Switch?

Although Monheim had an extremely solid season at Left Tackle, the chances he could potentially end up at Center in 2024. With Justin Dedich departing for an opportunity to play in the NFL, the Trojans were left without an obvious veteran replacement. Monheim would fill that role big time.

USC has an extremely challenging schedule in 2024, it’s first in the B1G 10 conference. The Trojans lose center Dedich, right guard/tackle Jarrett Kingston and right tackle Michael Tarquin as starters from the 2023 offensive line.

As of now, we’d guess Monheim, Elijah Paige, Alani Noa and Emmanuel Pregnon will return as starters, meaning USC will likely add a starting right tackle from the transfer portal.
