USC quarterback Caleb Williams lands on two prestigious awards lists
USC quarterback Caleb Williams was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Top 10 and the Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2023.
The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is presented to the nation’s top upperclassman quarterback who best exemplifies character, scholastic and athletic achievement. The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually to the nation’s best college quarterback.
Williams won the Heisman Trophy for his performance during the 2022 season, but both the Unitas and O’Brien Awards were won by TCU quarterback Max Duggan. Williams was one of three finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award last season.
The Unitas Golden Arm Award Top 10 includes Williams along with Jayden Daniels (LSU), Dillon Gabriel (Oklahoma), Sam Hartman (Notre Dame), Drake Maye (North Carolina), J.J. McCarthy (Michigan), Bo Nix (Oregon), Michael Penix Jr. (Washington), Jordan Travis (Florida State) and Cameron Ward (Washington State).
There were 35 quarterbacks named to the Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2023.
Through nine games of the 2023 season, Williams is completing a higher percentage of his passes and throwing for more yards per attempt than he did in 2022. He leads the nation in total points responsible for and is tied for No. 1 in the nation in passing touchdowns. Williams has also already rushed for nine touchdowns this season, one short of the number he posted last season.

The 2023 Johnny Unitas award winner will be announced at the Golden Arm Award banquet and celebration at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, December 7, 2023. The three finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 28, while the winner will be revealed live on Friday, Dec. 8, on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
The Davey O’Brien Award has a fan vote component. USC fans can like Williams’ photo on the @daveyobrien official accounts on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook. The quarterbacks leading the fan vote will receive bonus Selection Committee votes.
