It’s tough to believe a program can get better at a position when losing a Heisman Trophy winner and No. 1 overall NFL draft pick. But the USC Trojans are going to see what happens this fall when they send out Miller Moss to take over for Caleb Williams. And it’s clear that plenty of people have their sights set on what happens there for the Trojans. Pro Football Focus recently released a list of ten breakout for the 2024 college football season. Moss was included.

Of the USC quarterback, PFF’s Mitch Kaiser said:

“Moss has quietly been waiting in the wings for his opportunity at USC, and now that opportunity will come.

The now redshirt junior was exceptional every time he stepped on the field last fall, finishing with a 90.7 PFF grade on 66 dropbacks. He recorded an 80.6% adjusted completion percentage and put up a 91.7 PFF grade against the blitz.

Moss lit his bowl game up, going 23-of-33 for 372 yards, six touchdowns, three big-time throws and just one turnover-worthy play.”

Moss answered plenty of questions with that performance against Louisville. It turned the heat all the way down on the idea of USC needing to land an immediate starter out of the transfer portal. It also proved that Moss could put up big numbers against what was still a respectable Louisville defense not missing any key players.

Moss will have plenty of opportunities to prove himself this season. USC opens with a massive game against LSU on Sept. 1 to kick off the season. The Trojans will also travel to Michigan for their first-ever Big Ten conference game in Week 4. With good performances in those games and two wins, Moss could have the college football world buzzing and USC in great position to finish off the 2024 season.
