Each week me and our impressive intern from USC’s Anneneberg School of Communications hop on Zoom. At that time we recap some of the interesting USC storylines of the week for our YouTube audience. Our primary focus is on recruiting, but we’ll also touch on other topics each week.
In this WeAreSC Recruiting Roundup Scott Schrader and Dylan Brashier discuss a number of the recent official visitors to take their trips to the USC campus….and much more.
Scott’s recent visits to see Eddrick Houston, Jaylen Harvey, Kameryn Fountain and Mike Matthews
One thing that’s clear is, official visits were be a big factor for 5-Star Buford (GA) DLEddrick Houston. USC had him on campus a little less than two months ago and that official visit opened his eyes. Distance will not be a factor and there’s a lot of buzz around USC and Ohio State.
Houston is one of the best in Georgia, and Alabama, Clemson and others are working to keep him closer to home. One thing that seems likely is Houston will leave the state of Georgia for college.
“It was just amazing,” said Houston about his USC official visit. “The school was great. Met a lot of people, a lot of coaches that I just talked to over the phone. It was great just to see them in person, spend time with them the whole weekend, and just get to know them.”
The upcoming commitment date for top USC RB target Taylor Tatum
Longtime USC target, Longview (Texas) four-star running back Taylor Tatum, has officially set his commitment date.
The top ranked running back in the 2024 class will announce his decision on July 21. As expected, he will be picking between USC and Oklahoma.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Tatum is the No. 35 overall prospect and No. 1 running back in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the No. 9 recruit in Texas.

Upcoming commitment date for top USC LB target Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa
Bellflower (Cal.) St. John Bosco four-star linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa is the latest top prospect in California to announce an upcoming commitment date. The Trojans top priority will be announce his commitment on July 23.
Viliamu-Asa is the No. 94 overall prospect and No. 8 linebacker in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 10 player in California.
Notre Dame and Ohio State are the two other schools in the running with USC in this recruitment. He has taken official visits to all three schools this summer.
Most impactful aspect of the USC experience
“I would say the most impactful parts was really just spending time with the coaches,” said Viliamu-Asa. “Everywhere me and my family went, we were spending time having conversations. They were really getting to know us, and we were getting to know them.
“One of the biggest highlights came Sunday morning at Coach Riley’s house. We ate breakfast, all of the coaches came out and all they brought their families. We ate breakfast and then had a little Bible Study. That was definitely a highlight.”
