The USC Trojans have posted two convincing wins early in the 2023 season but remain the No. 6 team in the country in the latest Coaches Poll.

The Trojans gained points from the preseason poll, moving from 1,228 to 1,283 total points. But wins against San José State and Nevada didn’t move the needle enough to move the Trojans up. They did see a shift with the team in front of them. LSU went into the season as the No. 5 team and played No. 8 Florida State in college football’s biggest game of Week 1. The Seminoles ran away from the Tigers in the second half and were rewarded with a three-spot bump in the rankings. As a result, Florida State now sits at No. 5, with LSU down to No. 14.

The top four teams in the Coaches Poll remained unchanged. Georgia leads the way with 63 of the 66 available first-place votes. Michigan is No. 2 with one first-place vote. Alabama is No. 3 with the other two first-place votes. And Ohio State is at No. 4.

USC’s difficult 2023 schedule looks even tougher now. The Trojans have five ranked teams remaining on their schedule, and a sixth just outside the Top 25 and a seventh that also received a vote.

Washington jumped into the top 10 with a big win over Boise State. The Huskies moved from No. 11 to No. 8. Notre Dame, Utah and Oregon remain back-to-back-to-back, but are now Nos. 11-13 after LSU and Clemson dropped below them with losses.

The fifth ranked team USC will face in this poll is Colorado, which needed just one game under head coach Deion Sanders to crack the Top 25. The Buffs are at No. 25 after beating No. 17 TCU this past weekend.

UCLA is the No. 4 team in “Others Receiving Votes” and Arizona also earned one vote at No. 25.
