It’s been speculated for a while that USC running back A’Marion Peterson would enter the transfer portal this spring and Saturday he officially announced his intention to do so.

“After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility,” Peterson posted to his X account. “I’m prepared for the next step in my journey and excited to reach my full potential. Thank you to my teammates, especially the linemen and quarterbacks in the trenches with me, and to the fans for all the love and support! I will forever be grateful and consider myself a Trojan for life!”

Peterson played sparingly during his two years with the Trojans. He’ll finish his USC career with 18 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown, plus two receptions for 13 yards.

He signed with USC in the 2023 recruiting class as the nation’s No. 387 overall prospect and No. 27 running back. Peterson and Quinten Joyner looked as though they’d form the 1-2 punch at running back of the future but neither will be on the 2025 USC roster as Joyner left this offseason for Texas Tech.

The writing has been on the wall for Peterson for a bit at this point. Fellow running back Bryan Jackson came on quickly as a true freshman during the 2024 season and jumped Peterson on the depth chart. USC went into the transfer portal this offseason to bring in Eli Sanders from New Mexico and then added the nation’s top-ranked juco back in Waymond Jordan. Those three are the likely top three on the depth chart this season and the Trojans also signed running backs Riley Wormley and Harry Dalton in the 2025 class.
