USC Set to Add Veteran Analyst to Defensive Staff
The USC defensive staff is set to gain an experienced defensive mind as longtime coach Greg Brown is set to join the staff as a defensive analyst. That, according to Matt Zenitz of On3.
Brown brings some Pac-12 experience as well as time spent all over the country in both college and the NFL. In the Pac-12, he served as Colorado’s defensive coordinator in 2011 and 2012. Before that, he was the Buff’s defensive backs coach from 2005-2010. Between those, he was the co-defensive coordinator at Arizona in 2010.
Brown was a defensive backs coach for the Falcons, Chargers, Oilers and 49ers, Falcons again and the Saints from 1994 through 2005. He coached defensive backs for Nick Saban at Alabama in 2013 and for Gus Malzahn at Auburn in 2017 and 2018.
Last season, Brown was the defensive coordinator at Charlotte.
Brown has coached three Thorpe Award winners — Deon Figures (Colorado, 1992), Chris Hudson (Colorado, 1994) and Gerod Holliman (Louisville, 2014).

He joins a growing group of analysts on that side of the ball for the Trojans. Taylor Mays and Bookie Radley-Hiles are defensive analysts this season. Mays spent last year as a student assistant for the Trojans. Radley-Hiles played for Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch at Oklahoma and spent time last fall watching USC practices. Parker Henry continues to hold the title of Senior Defensive Analyst/Assistant Linebackers coach.
The Trojans lost another Senior Defensive Analyst this offseason when Austin Woods was hired as the offensive line coach at Incarnate Word.
