USC set to receive visit from transfer portal defensive tackle

Since entering the portal late last week, Wyoming transfer defensive tackle Gavin Meyer has become one of the top names available at the position. His agent, Miles Jordan tells On3 that Cal, Florida State, Michigan State, Indiana, Wisconsin, Duke, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota, West Virginia, Houston, BYU and San Diego State have all expressed interest. Now, he’ll take a visit to USC, with the Trojans joining Cal, Illinois and Wisconsin atop his list.
The 6-foot-4, 282-pound nose tackle totaled 26 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss, while playing in all 13 games as a senior. Meyer was named First-Team All-Mountain West by Pro Football Focus following the 2023 season. In 2022, Meyer appeared in all 13 games with six starts. He finished that season with 40 tackles, including 20 solo stops and 20 assisted tackles.
USC will have to work against proximity to home as Meyer could look to head back to his native Wisconsin with the Badgers chasing hard. Meyer was set to be a veteran leader for the Cowboys this season as he has 35 college appearances over four seasons at Wyoming.

Defensive tackle has been a position of need for USC throughout the spring transfer portal window. The Trojans weren’t able to land former Michigan State lineman Derrick Harmon, who committed to Oregon. USC is still involved with former Grand Valley State lineman Jay’viar Suggs, who took a recent visit to see the Trojans.
USC head coach Lincoln Riley is familiar with recruiting transfer portal players from Wyoming. He landed defensive end Solomon Byrd ahead of the 2022 season and brought in offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon before the 2023 season.
