USC trending for 4-star DL Carlon Jones
With just days ahead of signing day, the USC Trojans are trending to land a commitment from four-star Bay City (Texas) defensive lineman Carlon Jones.
The Trojans are now the favorite over Ohio State, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Buckeyes were a heavy favorite for Jones since late November when Jones opened his recruitment.
Jones, 6-foot-2.5, 270-pounds had been committed to Nebraska since June 29, but nearly five months to the date, he reopened his recruitment.
Jones is currently ranked as the No. 351 overall prospect and No. 34 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 55 player in Texas.
On3 is much higher on Jones than others in the industry, tabbing him as the No. 194 overall prospect and No. 17 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle.

If he does elect to join to the Trojans, he would join Savage (Minn.) Prior Lake four-star defensive lineman Jide Abasiri as the only true defensive lineman in the class. However, USC will also bring in two edge rushers. Savannah (Ga.) Jenkins three-star EDGE Lorenzo Cowan and Atlanta (Ga.) Washington four-star EDGE Kameryn Fountain are two of the staff’s favorites in the recruiting class.
The Latest Buzz on Jones
While some thought he may wait until signing day to announce a decision, there is a belief one could come at anytime.
Both WeAreSC’s Marshall Levenson and Scott Schrader have logged predictions for USC to land Jones.
On3’s Texas recruiting analyst Gerry Hamilton also logged a prediction in favor of the Trojans as have others around the industry.
The momentum on Jones comes after his official visit to USC this past weekend on Dec. 15-17.
On the visit, Jones was able to connect with defensive line coach Shaun Nua as well as new defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn.
