Game Notes

To help you get prepared for kickoff, here are some notes about the matchup:

-USC leads the all-time series with Fresno State four to one. The Trojans have won the last four matchups in the series, three of which have come within the past ten years.

-The most recent matchup between the two teams came in the 2019 season opener, when USC defeated Fresno State 31-28. Most fans remember that game primarily for the season-ending ACL injury suffered by USC quarterback JT Daniels, prompting true freshman Kedon Slovis to come off of the bench. Daniels would not play another snap for USC, as he would enter the NCAA Transfer Portal following the season.

-Fresno State’s lone win in the series came in the 1992 Freedom Bowl. The game was Larry Smith’s last as head coach of the Trojans, as he was fired shortly following the defeat. In addition, the Bulldogs’ quarterback for that matchup was current Fresno State head coach Jeff Tedford.

-The Bulldogs’ special teams coordinator is a familiar name to USC fans: John Baxter. Baxter previously served two stints in the same role at USC: from 2010-2013, and again from 2016-2019.
