The USC Trojans (7-5, 5-4) will try to finish their 2023 college football season on a positive note as they head down to take on the No. 16 Louisville Cardinals (10-3, 7-1) in the DIRECTV Holiday Bowl. The Trojans are riding a three-game losing streak this year and will be looking to stop a three-game bowl losing streak.

Trojans – Cardinals game facts

– This will be the first-ever matchup between USC and Louisville.

– USC quarterback Miller Moss will get the first start of his career for the Trojans. Caleb Williams has opted out of this game and, while he has not officially announced his intentions, he is headed off to the 2024 NFL Draft. USC will also be without No. 3 quarterback Malachi Nelson, who entered the transfer portal. The Trojans’ backup quarterback in this one will be Jake Jensen.

– The Trojans likely will be without several players who have announced their intentions to enter the 2024 NFL Draft, including wide receiver Brenden Rice, running back MarShawn Lloyd and safety Calen Bullock. Safety Max Williams and wide receiver Tahj Washington have announced they won’t be back at USC next year despite having another season of eligibility. But both will play in the Holiday Bowl.

– While USC will be down some key players, Louisville won’t be at full strength either. Standout running back Jawhar Jordan and leading receiver Jamari Thrash will both sit this game out.

– This is USC’s fourth Holiday Bowl appearance. The Trojans beat Nebraska in 2014, lost to Wisconsin in 2015 and lost to Iowa in 2019.
