-Notre Dame’s most recent visit to the Coliseum came back in 2018 (the 2020 matchup between the two teams was cancelled due to the COVID 19 Pandemic). In that game, the Irish defeated the Trojans 24-17 to complete a 12-0 regular season and clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff. Both quarterbacks had impressive performances: Notre Dame’s Ian Book threw for 352 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, while USC’s JT Daniels passed for 349 yards and a touchdown.
-The Trojans’ most recent victory over Notre Dame was the famous Adoree’ Jackson hat trick game in 2016. On a rainy afternoon at the Coliseum, Jackson scored three touchdowns in three different ways—one on a punt return, one on a reception, and one on a kickoff return—helping USC handle the Irish 45-27.
-For the first time since 2010, both USC and Notre Dame have new head coaches. That year, Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly faced off against USC’s Lane Kiffin. This year, the Irish will be led by Kelly’s former defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman, while Lincoln Riley will lead the Trojans into battle.
